Key Experiences

Visibility of a bigger picture through consulting
Having worked with systems integration and service providers in the past as a Subject Matter Expert, I was only exposed to delivering projects that would be part of a strategic program. The desire to understand a strategic program road map led to me joining Accenture, an organisation that provides consultancy to develop strategic business outcomes.
This has enabled me to manage and work with a diverse workforce across many countries on complex and interesting global programs for major enterprise organisations.
The interesting part of my role is the conception and development of a strategic road map to address an organisation's needs - and to see the benefits/outcomes of delivering programs that resolve these needs is daunting, but at the same time interesting. This is what makes it exciting and fulfilling for me as an individual.

Current Position

I design and transform IT infrastructures for organisations to operate
I lead a technical team that works closely with our clients to understand their operations and how they can use Information technology to enhance productivity by reducing costs, operate efficiently, and collaborate effectively through the use of technology.
The engagement process varies per client and industry sector but what is common is understanding their critical need, followed by an holistic assessment that will report on key areas that will benefit from an organisational change.
As change can be very challenging for most people and organisations, we try as much as possible to identify and mitigate risks, and reduce impact to services.

Main Motivations

Exposure to emerging technologies and solutions
Our clients need Accenture's expertise to implement solutions that will meet their business needs. These solutions are typically best-in-class technologies from various technology companies. With a background in data networks, I've been involved in transformation programs and projects that require security solutions, LAN/wireless technologies, data centre/Cloud, contact centre and collaboration solutions architecture, design, implementation and support.
As these technologies and their adoption constantly evolve, it is key to keep pace with these changes to match our clients' demand. In some cases, we have had to architect hybrid solutions from different technology vendors to build a 'best of breed' solution.
An important aspect of the engagement process is the operations and support of technological service that have been introduced to these organisations. So I also assist with developing the target operating model and organisation structure for operating these solutions.

Top Advice

Keep challenging yourself. There's always something new and exciting
I started my career as a factory engineer, working with industrial machines on an automated production line and using circuit diagrams to fix failed machines.
I decided to try something new and started working on software programming and data networks. I found that my skills were transferable and I was able to translate my electric circuit diagrams into network diagrams using similar logic.
Since there were no formal computer-related courses at that time, I started studying for specific certifications in Microsoft and Cisco. This opened an opportunity for me to move career from manufacturing to banking, service providers, systems integration and then consulting.
What I've experienced is the need to keep learning and unlearning through knowledge sharing, focus groups and technology events. I'm part of an elite networking group as a Cisco Certified Internet Expert (CCIE).

Greatest Achievement

I recently won an award recognising my people development skills
I have a passion to develop people in technology, so whatever team I find myself in, I look at developing required skills that will enable individuals to succeed. I presently manage the Accenture UK Cisco certification program and I sponsor individuals in taking Cisco certifications and exams that are used for Accenture accreditation and client work. As a Network Subject Matter Expert (SME), I mentor several people in preparing for certifications and also coach them on project delivery and implementation.
I have been involved in resolving several priority support cases for our key clients and coaching Network Operations Centre resources in how to identify and resolve network-related issues.
